The kind of ugly that could accept no other description. Something had pressed his face inward, making one cheek higher than the other. His left eye always seemed closed. His hair was the color of straw, not the kind that shone in the sun, but rather the straw thrown on a muddy patch to keep people from slipping. Some pox had marked his skin. He had a knife scar that could have added dashing flair, but in his case, simply highlighted the pox scars.
