Woden is a major god in Nordmannic mythology. He is the king of the gods. He appears as a father figure, a seeker of wisdom, and a guardian.

He is the chooser of the slain, and brings half of the brave who die in battle, the einherjar, back to Valhalla. The other half goes to Freyja's home Folkvangr.

He wields a spear named Gungnir.

He is accompanied by Huginn and Muninn, ravens who bring him information, Geri and Freki, the wolves at his side, and his flying, eight-legged horse Sleipnir.

Some scholars and Chroniclers suggest his name is actually Weidonez, based on some pre-historical inscriptions.
